Recreation and leisure activities

The activities available to you in the South of Iceland will leave you spoilt for choice. You can choose from among other things a horseback ride on the totally unique Icelandic horse, a stroll through Thingvellir living and breathing the history that surrounds the place where the first Icelandic parliament was held over a thousand years ago or just a drive through the country side stopping off at one of the many handicraft shops along the way. If fishing is your way of relaxing then you are in luck as the South of Iceland offers some of the best rivers and lakes for a variety of fresh water fishing.

Golf courses range from short par 3 nine hole courses to tough and challenging 18 hole championship courses. Many marked hiking routes, differing in difficulty, surround most of the tourist areas of southern Iceland. Tour companies using 4 X 4 vehicles take people on day or over-night trips to view some of the last remaining glaciers in Europe. Waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, volcanoes and magnificent country side are some of the wonders of the South of Iceland. Come and share them with us, TravelSouth.is
